It goes without saying, and yet we say it anyway, the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is vast and unprecedented. Congress, IRS and DOL have been on over-drive issuing new legislation and guidance to provide relief and flexibility to employers and participants. COVID-19’s public health impact is not unprecedented by itself. Some of the other “unprecedented” aspects of COVID-19 in 2020 so far include: the shutdown, massive unemployment, the Government response, the consultant and law firm E-alerts and newsletters and the challenge to employee benefits professionals just to keep up. Jim Griffin has more than 30 years of experience as a lawyer in the field of employee benefits. Over the past few months, he has collected into his electronic grab bag folder links to various newsletters and government releases that directly impact employee benefit professionals. Jim will sort through his electronic folder and share some of the most interesting and important COVID-19 developments for employee benefits professionals. This will be a good opportunity to make sure that you know what you know and, more importantly, that you know what you don’t know and didn’t miss anything that you need to know while you were trying so hard to stay safe and to keep up.
